Why do experienced roasters and buyers reference offering sheets?
Roasters get visibility into green coffee supply and prices when factors are clearly provided by importers. By breaking apart market influences and importer costs, roasters get a true apples-to-apples comparison of coffee prices.
Coffee Differential (importer costs)
- Importer overhead including warehousing, palletizing, quality control, and more.
- Logistical factors such as ocean freight cost, producer relationship, risk management, and more.
NY Coffee Future Prices (stock symbol "KC")
- Price of Arabica coffee beans traded as a commodity
- Influenced by factors such as producer supply, coffee demand, environmental changes, trade policies, speculators, and more.
The final price of green coffee is determined by adding these components together:
Price = NY Coffee Futures + Differential 
How to read our offering sheet
The data are ordered by origin, followed by the key commercial and quality details:
- US State – location of the coffee.
- Origin – producing country.
- Quality – grade and screen size.
- Score – arrival cupping score.
- Process – W = washed, N = natural, H = honey.
- Ref – internal reference or purchase contract number.
- Arrival – month when Copan Trade takes possession.
- Location – warehouse name (for example, Dupuy RPM Cadeco).
- Bags – quantity available for spot or forward delivery.
- $/100 lbs. Ex Whs – price indication; the sum of the fixed differential and the NY futures reference.
- Dif / 100 lbs. – Ex Whs (yellow section) – importer differential, shown by the Inco term definition.
